One of my favorite papers ever: the surprising discovery of cytochrome-c implication in cell death

Yesterday, I thought it was a perfect time to look back at one of my favorite papers ever, published by y Xiandong Wang's team in 1996 in the journal Cell. This article was the first to report a pivotal role for cytochrome-c in apoptosis. The pro-death role of cytochrome c seemed puzzling at first glance because this small mitochondrial protein was known to exert vital roles in energy production. A compelling work, rigorous and groundbreaking for the field. These researchers were certainly extremely brave for daring to submit their discovery.
